Co-Founder & Research Director
CRI Co-founder and research director, I serve as the director of INSERM/Université de Paris research unit (U1284 - Systems Engineering and Evolution Dynamics). I graduated from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem "Amirim" interdisciplianry program (Chemistry major) and received my M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Chemical Immunology. Following stays at the Scripps Institute and MRC (Cambridge), I received EMBO and Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowships to joined the lab of Miro Radman in Paris. My research revolves around two axes: systems and synthetic biology as well as open and citizen science. In parallel, I mentor the research group leaders at the CRI. Former director of AIV (now AIRE master) and director of studies of the FdV (now FIRE PhD program), I continue to teach and mentor in these programs.
Ariel's Bio

I am research director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), co-founder and research director of the CRI. I served as co-director of the AIV CRI master program from its conception until 2018. I keep enjoying remote mentoring of the Paris Bettencourt iGEM team since 2006.

My research interests revolve around applying Physical, Chemical and Systems/Synthetic Biological approaches to study key questions in life and death.

Earlier work on variability between clonal individuals, lead to a continuous interest in aging, developin bacteria as a viable model and to studies on the origins of cooperation among individuals.

Major contributions in past 5 years include publications in Nature, Science, Cell and PNAS journals for which I am an occasional reviewer.

I coordinated the Citizen CyberLab European project (citizencyberlab.eu), I take part in the Axa foundation Chair on Longevity. I co-created the CRI Masters and PhD programs, based on novel adaptive learning using ICT and organized numerous interdisciplinary research/education workshops around the world.
