AIRE Learning Sciences

The Learning Sciences program is dedicated to learning sciences and digital practices in education. It aims at training creative and talented students to become the future researchers or change makers in this domain.

Learning Sciences (LS) is an interdisciplinary domain which aims to examine how people learn in formal and informal contexts. As synthesized by Sommerhoff et al. (2018) it includes the study of “how people learn, supporting learning, learning in the disciplines, and technology-enhanced learning and collaboration, including computer-supported collaborative learning”. For that purpose our program refers to different disciplines such as psychology, social sciences, computer sciences, educational sciences, instructional design, etc. It also includes a research training program that deliver methods and tools to observe, analyze and improve learning and its context. This approach has a multilevel ambition going from a microsystem perspective to a macrosystem one

We consider that in parallel with the digital and environmental transitions, there is a “learning transition” which transforms our ways to learn, teach, conduct research but also the way we work, manage, collaborate and create. This program is based on the figure of the Social Scientist Entrepreneur with a curriculum using project-based methodology, evidence-based research methodology, mentoring and peer-to-peer learning. Each year, we work with classes of passionate students who have the desire to learn, explore and co-construct together.

First year planning

The first year is an intense entry into the field of Learning Sciences! Designed to provide you with a global understanding of the digital transformation happening in education and pedagogy, support to design a relevant and challenging research problematic or entrepreneurial project. The course structure encourages work in the form of projects, promotes exchange and feedback, multiplies formats (workshops, seminars, lectures, peer-to-peer sessions, etc.) in order to maintain an intense and challenging intellectual emulation.

After four weeks of Bootcamp which aim to create an emulation in the new promotion and create a common foundation of values in multicultural classes, you will contribute the following program:

Second year planning

Based on two pillars : Master Thesis and Internships, the second year curriculum confirms the entry into the field of research in learning sciences. With 9 months of internships and a long-term work on an individual research question defined at the beginning of the year, the students will have the opportunity to prepare a PhD project or to build their vision of the Social Scientist Entrepreneur.
